Join our coaching staff! Maize Middle School is seeking an assistant boys track coach.
To instruct students in the fundamental skills, strategy and training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instructions that will lead to the formation of pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.
Essential Functions
- Supervise students during scheduled practices
- Stay informed on new techniques or concepts as it pertains to the assigned area of responsibility
- Inventory and maintain equipment and uniforms
- Be responsible for coaching and modeling good sportsmanship and citizenship as defined by KSHSAA.
- Provide a safe, educational, competitive environment for both practices and performances.
- Communicate effectively with the school office, media and parents
- Maintain the physical well being of the students in all areas pertaining to the designated area of responsibility
- Request transportation, lodging and stipend.
- Develop and implement practice plans that are designed to improve individual and team performance while adhering to safety guidelines
- Motivate student-athletes to reach their full potential by instilling a positive attitude and setting high expectations
- Teach student-athletes the importance of teamwork, good sportsmanship, and dedication to academics
- Evaluate student-athletes’ strengths and weaknesses and make strategic decisions regarding game strategy and player positioning
- Attend all scheduled practices and games, arriving on time and prepared with the necessary equipment and resources
- Stay up-to-date on developments in your sport, attending coaching clinics and workshops when possible
- Complete all training required by KSDE and the district
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or school principal
Minimum Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport/activity
- Knowledge of KSHSAA rules and regulations
- Knowledge of USD 266 policies and expectations
- Knowledge of age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; methods of instruction and training; basic disabilities; and behavioral management strategies
- Ability to communicate with tact and patience
- Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals
- Ability to solve problems and analyze issues and create action plans
- Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and to remain flexible and creative
- Ability to work under limited supervision
