To instruct students in the fundamental skills, strategy and training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.  At the same time, the student shall receive instructions that will lead to the formation of pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.  



Essential Functions

  1. Supervise students during scheduled practices
  2. Stay informed on new techniques or concepts as it pertains to the assigned area of responsibility
  3. Inventory and maintain equipment and uniforms
  4. Be responsible for coaching and modeling good sportsmanship and citizenship as defined by KSHSAA.
  5. Provide a safe, educational, competitive environment for both practices and performances.
  6. Communicate effectively with the school office, media and parents
  7. Maintain the physical well being of the students in all areas pertaining to the designated area of responsibility
  8. Request transportation, lodging and stipend.
  9. Develop and implement practice plans that are designed to improve individual and team performance while adhering to safety guidelines
  10. Motivate student-athletes to reach their full potential by instilling a positive attitude and setting high expectations
  11. Teach student-athletes the importance of teamwork, good sportsmanship, and dedication to academics
  12. Evaluate student-athletes’ strengths and weaknesses and make strategic decisions regarding game strategy and player positioning
  13. Attend all scheduled practices and games, arriving on time and prepared with the necessary equipment and resources
  14. Stay up-to-date on developments in your sport, attending coaching clinics and workshops when possible
  15. Complete all training required by KSDE and the district
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or school principal

 

Minimum Job Requirements 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

  1. Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport/activity
  2. Knowledge of KSHSAA rules and regulations
  3. Knowledge of USD 266 policies and expectations
  4. Knowledge of age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; methods of instruction and training; basic disabilities; and behavioral management strategies 
  5. Ability to communicate with tact and patience
  6. Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals  
  7. Ability to solve problems and analyze issues and create action plans 
  8. Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
  9. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and to remain flexible and creative
  10. Ability to work under limited supervision
