Our Kitchen Assistants work in a fast-paced environment preparing and serving nutritious meals to students to support student learning. The Food Service department works school days only - no nights, weekends, or holidays!  This position works 5 hours per day.

A Day In The Life

• Prepare healthy and appealing food 
• Utilize sound sanitation standards to meet district, state, and federal guidelines
• Serve food so that students and staff receive their food in a timely and friendly manner
• Assist in tasks necessary for efficient functioning of the food service program (washing dishes, scanning tickets, cleaning, organizing)
• Track inventory and communicate with the manager
• Monitor temperatures of foods, dishwasher, etc ensuring HACCP compliance
• Maintain confidentiality
• Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the food service program
• Perform deep cleaning/defrosting tasks
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations

Profile of a Successful Candidates

• Pass a background check
• Have a current TB test
• Team player
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Basic math and computer skills
• Knowledge of state health regulations
• High school diploma or equivelent
• Food Safety Basics-State Department of Education
• Kitchen experience recommended
• Can spend the day standing (80%) and walking (20%), lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
• Fine finger dexterity used

Environment

• Each school has a commerical kitchen
• Temperatures vary from extremely hot to exteremely cold (freezer)
• Can be noisy and crowded
