Help us get our students there safely. We are seeking CDL licensed bus drivers to transport students to and from school as well as extra excursions. Safety and wellbeing are our main priority. Bus Drivers also complete inspections, light maintenance and cleaning of the bus.
A Day in the Life:
- Safety first! Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. Fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior/interior conditions, mirrors, brake systems, lights, wheel chair lift, etc.) to ensure the safe operating condition of the bus and comply with mandated guidelines
- Organize pupil information in order to produce and update route maps of assigned students
- Communicate directly with parents/guardians for the purpose of meeting students’ needs and providing information (e.g. Pick-up and drop-off times, locations, any physical/medical requirements, parents concerns, etc.)
- Clean assigned bus, both interior and exterior, for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of the bus
- Direct the orderly loading and unloading of students to avoid injuries
- Monitor students and other passengers during transit including advising of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing established rules and maintaining passenger safety
- Provides emergency first aid and/or CPR as required
- Complete and submit reports of incidents, complaints, accidents, potential emergency situations, and passenger misconduct to appropriate personnel
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills to ensure efficiency of procedures and compliance
- Operate a two-way radio to communicating with the district office(s)
- Prepare reports (e.g. driving time, mileage, safety inspections, pupil count, etc.)
- Attend meetings for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting certificate requirements as required by the district and state
- Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws
- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the transportation department
Successful Candidates:
- Pass a background check and drug test
- Have a current TB test
- Maintain
- a valid Kansas CDL driver’s license with SP air-brake endorsement
- Medic First Aid Training Certificate
- AAA Defensive Driving Certificate
- Physical/Medical Examination Certificate
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Have multi-year experience operating a motor vehicle
- Can drive during darkness (early mornings and evenings required)
- Can use ladders, lift heavy items, and work in extreme weather
- Can spend the majority of their time sitting – There will be some lifting, carrying, stooping and kneeling
- Maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality
