Description

The Technology Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the district's technology infrastructure, systems, and data against cybersecurity threats and unauthorized access. This role includes coordinating staff training on cyber and physical security best practices, assisting with risk assessments, data management, and recovery planning, and managing video surveillance and building access systems. The specialist also provides advanced technical support, escalates complex issues, and ensures the efficient operation and security of technology systems.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Associate’s degree preferred; Microsoft, Linux, or Google certification preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills: Effective organizational skills, strong communication both written and  verbal, ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions, ability to present information, computer skills, detail oriented, critical thinking, high accuracy, experience with Google or Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with computer hardware components and peripherals, basic understanding of networks and wireless technologies, problem solving, ability to adapt to changing technology trends and willingness to learn new skills, knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and data protection is a plus, general network experience and understanding, ability to review and edit documents

 

Experience: 1-3 years experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Monitor and maintain security systems, including firewalls, antivirus, surveillance, and access controls, while responding to threats and incidents.
  • Assess vulnerabilities, secure infrastructure, and enforce cybersecurity policies and compliance standards.
  • Investigate incidents, conduct audits, maintain documentation, and report findings to stakeholders.
  • Provide security training and support overall technology operations.
  • Maintain security cameras, auxiliary UPS units, temperature sensors, and copper phone systems.
  • Provide floating building coverage, Mt. Hope support, and Level II support for intermediate schools.
  • Manage cybersecurity systems, backups, data retention, and Windows devices through Intune.
  • Administer iPad management with Mosyle and support other technology operations as needed.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and phone, standard classroom technology including computer and peripherals, ladder, servers, power tools, hand tools, district owned vehicle

 

Posture: Prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, occasional bending/stooping

 

Motion: Some walking, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse, occasional reaching, climb stairs and ladder, driving

 

Lifting: Occasional lifting of heavy objects

 

Environment: Primarily indoors

 

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress,  solve problems, make decisions, interpret data

 

Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.

 

Clearances: Background check, drug screen, TB test
