Our Kitchen Assistants work in a fast-paced environment preparing and serving nutritious meals to students to support student learning. The Food Service department works school days only - no nights, weekends, or holidays! This position works 5 hours per day (9am-2pm)
A Day In The Life
- Prepare healthy and appealing food
- Utilize sound sanitation standards to meet district, state, and federal guidelines
- Serve food so that students and staff receive their food in a timely and friendly manner
- Assist in tasks necessary for efficient functioning of the food service program (washing dishes, scanning tickets, cleaning, organizing)
- Track inventory and communicate with the manager
- Monitor temperatures of foods, dishwasher, etc ensuring HACCP compliance
- Maintain confidentiality
- Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the food service program
- Perform deep cleaning/defrosting tasks
- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations
Profile of a Successful Candidates
- Pass a background check
- Have a current TB test
- Team player
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Basic math and computer skills
- Knowledge of state health regulations
- High school diploma or equivelent
- Food Safety Basics-State Department of Education
- Kitchen experience recommended
- Can spend the day standing (80%) and walking (20%), lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Fine finger dexterity used
Environment
- Each school has a commerical kitchen
- Temperatures vary from extremely hot to exteremely cold (freezer)
