The Clerk-in-Training is a short-term position to gain knowledge, experience, and skills to assume the responsibilities of a Lunch Clerk upon completion of training.
A Day in the Life:
- Complete annual training requirements.
- Respond to questions/concerns of parents and students in order that all needs are being met and/or addressed.
- Substitute for any area needed when a kitchen assistant is absent in order to maintain an efficient kitchen.
- Collect money and credit student/staff accounts so meals can be purchased.
- Maintain accurate records of accounts, money collected, and meals served in order to meet compliance mandates and state reports.
- Maintain collected money to ensure the safe keeping of the funds.
- Contact families to collect negative balances in accordance with the Unpaid Meal Balance Policy.
- Complete Monthly State Reports and submits them in a timely manner.
- Assist with the preparation of food items according to the Kitchen Manager’s instructions to ensure that meals are served on time.
- Train member(s) of the kitchen staff to perform duties when the clerk is absent.
- Assist with training of new cashiers or clerks district-wide.
- Attend Clerk’s meetings as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge to efficiently and accurately operate the point of sale system.
- Grows and applies skills to investigate and correct errors in cash register drawers, daily deposits and transactions.
- Demonstrates accuracy identifying reimbursable meals and coaches students on building a reimbursable meal
- Gains a solid understanding of the Food Service department and Child Nutrition Program requirements.
- Uses good communication and customer service skills in working with other team members, school staff, students and parents.
- Develops skills to train a diverse team.
- Studies and exhibits understanding of the Clerk and Cashier Guide
